  • dadofdivas · 1 year ago
Thinking about this, the below may not be my favorites per se, but they were HUGE Hits bac in their day...it amazes me how they can be hot one minute and antarctic the next...but hence the name One Hit Wonder.

So in the spirit of the post...How about a blast from the 90's -

Calloway's "I Wanna Be Rich" or better yet...

The Divinyls (1990) "I Touch Myself"...

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles. Man, have I won a lot of trivia contests with that song. Play a little Jeopardy and give me the question!

Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - The Spin Doctors

    Fantasy - Alda Nova

Yes, I'm a one hit wonder fan.
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Good stuff. Video Killed the Radio Star was the song posted that started this whole thing.
  • simplyChuck · 1 year ago
Alda Nova, Fantasy....Whoa. I totally forget about that one. It's in my head not though....

My fav is The Divinyls. They sang 'I Touch Myself'. That song cracked me up. My runner-up favorite is probably 2 In A Room they sang 'wiggle it'. Oh, oh, and my 3rd is Sugar Hill Gang with 'Rapper's Delight'
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
The Divinyls - cool! Here's the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FGk63Fv7t4

1: A-ha had a second hit with "The Sun Always Shines On TV
2: The Spin Doctors had a second hit with "Two Princes"
3: DEVO had a minor radio hit with "Girl You Want"

Oh man, Kim Carnes has one of the most gravelly voices ever. It grates on me like that singer from Cinderella. (Could it be the same person? Hmmm.)
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Not a Kim Carnes fan either - right there with ya Pete!
  • CharliePATpk · 1 year ago
I always got Kim Carnes' song mixed up with the parody: She's Got Marty Feldman's Eyes...
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
    Was that by Weird Al?
  • CharliePATpk · 1 year ago
I knew it wasn't Weird Al, so I searched and found a reference to Silly Willy

Her hair is gray and old
    Her lips chapped and dry
    Her hands are always cold
    She's got Marty Feldman eyes
  • soapbox mom · 1 year ago
That was so much fun, Jeremy! Thanks for prompting the discussion.

Hooray! Another vote for Rapper's Delight!
    ;-)
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Anyone who doesn't like Rapper's Delight is crazy!
  • pete · 1 year ago
I've watched that video like five times today. Rappers Delight is awesome.

  • NukeDad · 1 year ago
I got a million of 'em:

    Turning Japanese-The Vapors
    She Shiela-The Producers
    Never Say Never-Romeo Void
    Goody Two Shoes-Adam Ant
    Sunglasses At Night-Corey Hart

I could be here all day....
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
I agree with all of them, except Adam Ant - he actually had more than one hit song, and he even made a successful comeback with the Wonderful album. Everything else is definite one hit wonder material Nuke!
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
  • roadkill refugee · 1 year ago
I actually hated Bette Davis Eyes -- but because apparently millions of others recognized Kim Carnes stunk and she never had another hit, it restored my faith in humanity.

Other one hitters: Adam Ant (can't remember the song name - "don't sleep, don't drink, what do you do?"), Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax, Sex Pistols's God Save the Queen, Billy Idol's White Wedding...
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Another round of good ones, but again, I'm gonna have to defend my boy Mr. Ant - he had more than one hit ;-)
  • NukeDad · 1 year ago
OK, I just got validation; so Jeremy, I'm callin' you out......NAME his other hit!
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
2nd hit - Desperate but Not Serious
    3rd hit - Wonderful

Personally, I like the entire Wonderful album. Here's a link to the video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pkulyWMNYbg

I'm super-late on this post, but you all have it totally wrong. The greatest one-hit-wonder tune of all time is "Love is on the Way", by Saigon Kick. Let see who knows THAT one. It rocks, and I have never been able to play it because the guitarist's reach is like 200 frets. OK, now you know I (still) love 80's metal. I don't care.

"Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina and The Waves is such a perfect song, it's amazing the band never did much of anything else.

Also, "Wonderful Life" by Black is a beautiful song.
