That is such great news that she was finally able to come home, and although those 23 days were more trying than anything I've ever read about, I'm sure ultimately it was worth it to have her with you now.

My sister was born at around 30 weeks (this was the 1970's mind you) and while she did not have anywhere near the ordeal that your daughter did, she turned out fine.
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Thanks for sharing that, and I'm glad your sister turned out well! I'm so thankful that we've had a success story too with Caitlin! We're ecstatic that she's home!
  • Aimee Greeblemonkey · 1 year ago
Isn't it the most amazing - and WEIRD - feeling.. when they disconnect the monitors???

BIG CONGRATS to you all! And best wishes to Caitlin! What a fighter!

Thanks Andrea! I agree that the human body is capable of some amazing things, especially when it is encouraged by positivity and love!

Huge sighs of relief and happiness over here. I've not commented much lately because, quite frankly, I've been a nervous wreck about poor Caitlin's (and your family's) entire situation.

Thank God you guys are finally home.
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
I understand completely Ed, and it was hard to write about it too. Part of me felt like it was therapeutic, but another part of me just wanted to forget each day and look forward. Now that it's over, I'm glad that I captured it for the future. Thanks again for your support!

You're a better man than me!

That's a beautiful photo montage and a perfect ending to the last 23 days. I can't believe it's been that long! You and your family should be extremely proud of yourselves. I really appreciate your openness regarding this ordeal, smiles and tears, happiness and sadness. That's the sign of a real man. Thank you for breaking the mold.

    Welcome home Caitlin!
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago

I came to this blog after seeing a submission to my blog carnival. I just wanted to share with you happiness that your daughter is home. I was born at 28 weeks, and endured a 35 day stay in the NICU, to very young teenage parents in '85. I have a mild case of cerebral palsy, and otherwise am fine. It doesn't stop me from leading a productive life, and I'm very thankful to be here. Caitlin will enjoy life so much more when she realizes how hard she fought in the beginning.
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Thanks for sharing that Cindy, and congratulations to you! I am always amazed at the success stories of others, and I'm very happy to hear that things are well!
  • Tom · 1 year ago
Thank God!!! I'm so glad to read this. And I can imagine that both of you are very, very happy to have your little baby disconnected and free to carry, touch and hold. May God bless you all as you go through life, and as Caitlin grows bigger and stronger.
  • jnbammer · 1 year ago
Thanks Tom! We feel so thankful for every small thing, like holding her without the wires or worrying about TPN lines anymore! We really appreciate your support through this entire thing!

    Welcome home, Caitlin!!
